OUR PURPOSEOur Mission
The mission of the Omaha Family Violence Program is: “To stop violence against women and children by advocating for change in a non-judgmental approach; through education, advocacy and awareness by providing caring compassion as our strength and unity in our tribal traditions”.
Vision Statement – Every person and child has a right to be safe and live without fear of abuse. With holistic and traditional values, we strive to end violence.
Goals and/or Services
Our goal is to bring awareness and provide services to our community using a cultural aspect. We provide emergency supportive services, advocacy, emergency shelter, support groups, legal assistance, and much more.

Our program consisted of two (advocates) in 2022, we have since grown to seven (7) employee’s. We were able to open our women’s and children shelter (Laura’s House,) which has been closed since 2020 due to the pandemic.
Laura’s House is named after Laura June Barea, Sr. On October 30th, 2013 the Omaha tribal council passed a unanimous vote, “Laura’s House” named after Laura Barea, Sr. who dedicated her time and effort to ending Domestic Violence/sexual assault/ and teen dating violence on the Omaha Reservation.
Laura’s House is a shelter for DV/SA survivors and their children who are seeking safety from domestic violence and need a safe environment. Upon completion of intake packet and reading policies and procedures handbook, client may opt to stay in the safe house or seek shelter elsewhere. We do provide transportation. Laura’s House comes with all amenities to be safe and comfortable.
