roadband Grant Project Update
Quick Current-Nebraska, LLC (QCNE)

QCNE is pleased to provide an update on three major broadband infrastructure projects currently underway that will improve connectivity throughout the Omaha Tribe service area and surrounding communities. All projects remain on schedule and within budget, with initial broadband services anticipated to begin deployment before the end of the year.
NTIA Middle Mile Project (MM)
Construction continues to make steady progress across the Middle Mile network.
Current milestones include:
- 303.1 miles of conduit installed (approximately 85% complete)
- 211.3 miles of fiber optic cable installed (approximately 59% complete)
- Major river bore crossing in Decatur successfully completed
Construction activities in the Omaha area are temporarily paused due to coordination requirements related to the College World Series.
Environmental remediation work at the Carter Lake property has been completed. Testing and monitoring wells will soon be reinstalled and monitored over the next year to ensure environmental levels remain within acceptable limits.
NTIA Tribal Broadband Connectivity Program (TBCP)
Several significant milestones have been achieved:
- All required environmental approvals have been completed
- NTIA authorization has been received to begin construction activities
- Radio equipment procurement is underway, with manufacturing, testing, and delivery currently in progress
Nebraska Broadband Office NBEAD Community Anchor Institution Project
QCNE has been awarded more than $500,000 through the Nebraska Broadband Office to provide broadband connectivity to 17 Community Anchor Institutions throughout Eastern Nebraska.
Communities included in this project:
- Macy
- Walthill
- Pender
- Tekamah
- Omaha
- Hartington
- Lyons
The subgrant award agreement between QCNE and the State of Nebraska has been finalized. The project is currently undergoing the required environmental review process, with construction expected to begin upon completion of environmental clearances.
Project Outlook
All three projects remain on schedule and within approved budgets. QCNE continues to focus on completing infrastructure construction, securing final approvals, and preparing for service activation.
Based on current timelines, the first phase of broadband service is expected to become available to community members before the end of the year.
QCNE appreciates the continued support and patience of community members as work continues to expand broadband access and strengthen digital infrastructure throughout Tribal communities.
