Omaha Tribe Receives Letter of Interest from Travois New Markets, LLC for First New Markets Tax Credit Project
Proposed financing would support three Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center projects
Macy, Nebraska — The Omaha Tribe of Nebraska has received a Letter of Interest from Travois New Markets to pursue the Tribe’s first New Markets Tax Credit project, an important step toward financing three major facility projects for the Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center.
The proposed transaction would support:
- Maintenance and Transportation Expansion
- Child Care Facility
- Behavioral Health Facility
The Tribe is excited to work with Travois New Markets, LLC and its project team to advance the transaction and see these projects through to completion for the benefit of the Omaha community.
“This is an exciting opportunity for the Omaha Tribe and an important step toward completing projects that will directly benefit our community,” said Omaha Tribe Treasurer Cheyenne Robinson. “New Markets Tax Credits provide us with another way to leverage outside investment and maximize the resources available to the Tribe. We are excited to work with Travois and our project team to move these projects forward and see them through to completion.”
The three projects will strengthen the Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center’s capacity to support health operations, transportation services, childcare, and behavioral health services.
“These projects are about creating the facilities and infrastructure we need to better serve our community,” said Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center Chief Executive Officer Sarah Rowland. “Each project responds to a real need, whether that is supporting our workforce and transportation operations, providing childcare for families, or expanding behavioral health services. We are excited to see these projects move forward and to work toward the day when these facilities are completed and serving our community.”
The New Markets Tax Credit Program, administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Community Development Financial Institutions Fund, is designed to attract private investment into qualifying low-income communities. Investors receive federal tax credits totaling 39 percent of qualified investments over seven years, creating an additional financing tool for community development projects.
Through the Letter of Interest, Travois New Markets, LLC has expressed its interest in using a portion of its New Markets Tax Credit allocation to help finance the three Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center projects.
The Omaha Tribe and Carl T. Curtis Health Education Center are also assisted by Buffalo Tail Consulting, LLC who are supporting project coordination, financial planning, due diligence, and the work necessary to move the proposed transaction toward closing.
For the Omaha Tribe, the project represents both an investment in essential community facilities and an opportunity to build experience with a financing tool that may support future Tribal projects.
